2010 Human Health Care Scholarship Program - Cover Letter and Instructions

 

The Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary (BCHA), a volunteer organization devoted to supporting the hospital and the community it serves, offers a Human Health Care Scholarship Program.  The deadline for submission of applications with all requested signatures and all documentation is March 19, 2010 by 4 pm.  All applications must be received by the BCH Volunteer Office, Attn: Scholarship, at that time in order to be considered for an award.

 

Scholarship Coverage

  • For human health care education at a Colorado college/university.
  • 2010 awarded monies are for one academic year (June 2010-May 2011).
  • Tuition only; excluded are room, board, fees and books
  • Scholarship awards range from $500 to $3,000 with money paid directly to the financial aid office of the institution attended.

Eligibility

  • Graduating high school seniors residing and attending a school within the Boulder Valley School District RE-2 who have been accepted as a full-time student by a Colorado college/university; BCH junior volunteer experience is preferred but not required.
  • Graduating high school seniors who are children of current BCH employees who have completed 5 years of full or half-time (18-35 hrs/week) employment at BCH, and who have been accepted as a full-time student by a Colorado college/university.  The school district is whichever district in which the BCH employee resides.
  • Currently active BCH volunteers presently enrolled in a Colorado college/university who will continue to be enrolled at a Colorado institution of higher education and have completed a minimum of 200 BCH volunteer service hours. 
  • Employees of Boulder Community Hospital who have completed 2 years of full-time or half-time (18-35 hrs/week) employment at BCH and have been accepted or are furthering their education
    at a Colorado college/university.  Continuing education classes are excluded. 
  • Former BCHA scholarship recipients who desire to continue their human health care education at a Colorado college/university.

Application, Documentation and Signatures

Download an application.  The following documentation and signatures must be attached (or included as specified in your application) to your application at the time of its submission or the application will not be considered for an award.

q      OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT copy from the latest academic year (only official transcript accepted, otherwise application will be denied).

q      If FAFSA results are available, include those with the application.

q      A one page essay addressing the health care education you have chosen to pursue and/or are continuing to pursue – how you arrived at your decision and how this scholarship will help you meet your goals.  Also, if you are a BCH employee, discuss how your additional education will enhance your service to BCH, or if you are a BCH College volunteer, explain why your service to BCH makes you a deserving scholarship recipient.

q      Two letters of recommendation from non-family members attesting to academic achievement and goals of the applicant.  Letters must be written and dated after January 2010 and contain the address, phone number, and email address of the person writing the recommendation.

Interviews

All communication regarding application acceptance/non-acceptance will be via email.  Interviews for qualifying candidates will be scheduled via an online scheduling program after the Scholarship Committee reviews all applications.  If you have any questions, contact Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary Information Line at 303-440-2066.

Notification of Award

Within two weeks of the interview, applicants will be notified via U.S. mail whether or not an award has been granted. 

Scholarship Reception

All scholarship recipients are invited to, and expected to attend, the Scholarship Reception that will be held at 4:45 pm on Friday, May 7th, 2010, in the Leo Hill Conference Room at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital at 4747 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder.  This is a time of celebration and sharing of future plans.  It is also a time to acknowledge those in the Auxiliary who have worked to provide the funding for the scholarships.
